When singers are accompanied by pianists, they tend to be just that: singers … and their second bananas. No matter how much importance a composer puts into the piano part, no matter how significant the pianist, the voice feels primary.

Without starting QB, Rice sputters out of gate in loss to UH
Updated 10:46 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012
Charles Sims is back for the Houston Cougars.
For at least one week, so is the defense.
Sims rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns, and the Cougars held the explosive Rice offense in check in a 35-14 victory Saturday afternoon at Reliant Stadium.
The Cougars kept the Bayou Bucket trophy for the second year in a row and third time in the last four in the annual meeting between the cross-town rivals.
Houston (1-3, 1-0 Conference USA) built a 28-0 lead before the Owls added two late touchdown catches by Sam McGuffie.
Sims, who missed the Sept. 15 UCLA game with a hip injury, had touchdown runs of 3, 47 and 16 yards. He also had 47 receiving yards to finish with 205 all-purpose yards.
With two of the worst defenses in the nation on display, the Bayou Bucket seemed destined for a shootout, right?
A week after producing 51 points and nearly 650 yards total offense, the Owls (1-4, 0-2 C-USA) struggled to get into a rhythm without starting quarterback Taylor McHargue. McHargue injured his left (non-throwing) shoulder in last week's double-overtime loss to Marshall.
Redshirt freshman Driphus Jackson never had time to get comfortable in his first career start, as the Cougars regularly busted through the line untouched. UH had five sacks, including two by linebacker Phillip Steward, and countless more hurries.

Why the PC makers and Microsoft will never beat Apple
Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that struggling Hewlett-Packard was doubling its investment in PC designers to overcome its design disadvantage against Apple. The Journal quoted CEO Meg Whitman, who took the job a year ago, as saying when she became CEO she was handed a "brick" that had no appeal to her as a user. This anecdote was supposed to explain how HP has ended up becoming a boring PC maker with declining sales of PCs against the Apple juggernaut.
